MCP Installation

All CapRelay subscribers have MCP access (with higher-limit access options available). Connect CapRelay's MCP server to Claude, Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT, or another OAuth-capable MCP client so your agent can use CapRelay research tools from chat.

Install In Your Agent

Copy the CapRelay MCP server URL:

Open Claude's connector settings. In Claude Desktop, use the same Claude account and open Settings, then Connectors.
Click Add custom connector, name it CapRelay, paste the URL, and save.
Click Connect, sign in to CapRelay in the browser, and click Approve on the consent page.

Start a Claude chat, enable the CapRelay connector from the connector or tools menu if needed, and try:

List the CapRelay MCP tools and resources, read caprelay://getting-started, then use CapRelay to search for AAPL and provide a brief summary of its bull-bear debate.

If you do not want Claude to ask for permission every time it tries to access CapRelay, turn on Always Allow for the CapRelay connector in Claude's connector settings. This only gives Claude permission to use CapRelay's website without asking you each time.

Plan and Connector Note

Claude uses Custom Connectors for CapRelay MCP installation. On Team or Enterprise workspaces, an owner may need to add the custom connector before members can connect it.

Custom connectors may be limited on some plans such as the Free tier.

Connectors are tied to your Claude account and are available in claude.ai and Claude Desktop when you use the same account.

If you do not see custom connector settings, update Claude Desktop or confirm that custom connectors are enabled for your Claude account or workspace.

In a Claude Code chat, ask Claude to install the server for you:

Or open Terminal and run this command yourself:

claude mcp add --transport http caprelay https://www.caprelay.com/mcp

Follow Claude Code's MCP login prompt for caprelay, then sign in to CapRelay and click Approve.
Important Open a new Claude Code chat after login so Claude can load the CapRelay tools.

In the new Claude Code chat, try this prompt:

List the CapRelay MCP tools and resources, read caprelay://getting-started, then use CapRelay to search for AAPL and provide a brief summary of its bull-bear debate.

If Claude Code asks you to re-authorize the server later, follow its login or reconnect prompt for caprelay and approve the browser consent screen again.

Choose one start path below. Option 1 and Option 2 are alternatives; you do not need to do both.

Option 1: Use Settings

In the Codex desktop app, go to Settings > MCP Servers, then click Add custom MCP.
Fill in the CapRelay server details:
- Name: caprelay
- Transport: Streamable HTTP
- URL: https://www.caprelay.com/mcp
Leave bearer token and header fields blank. CapRelay uses browser sign-in, not a copied token.

Option 2: Ask Codex or use Terminal

This is an alternative to the Settings path above.

Ask Codex:

Add the CapRelay MCP server named caprelay using Streamable HTTP at https://www.caprelay.com/mcp, then help me complete browser sign-in.

Use Terminal:

codex mcp add caprelay --url https://www.caprelay.com/mcp

After Either Start Path

Complete the browser login and click Approve on the CapRelay consent page. If Codex does not automatically open the login page, run this Terminal command:

Important Open a new Codex chat after login so Codex can load the CapRelay tools.
To confirm the server is enabled and authenticated, run this Terminal command:
```
codex mcp list
```

In the new Codex chat, try this prompt:

List the CapRelay MCP tools and resources, read caprelay://getting-started, then use CapRelay to search for AAPL and provide a brief summary of its bull-bear debate.

If Codex reports No authorization support detected, recheck the server URL, remove the server, add it again, and run the login Terminal command above.

ChatGPT requires adding the CapRelay MCP as a custom App. To turn on custom Apps, open Settings, go to Apps, then Advanced settings, and enable Developer Mode. Some organizations may not support Developer Mode.
Copy the CapRelay MCP server URL:

In ChatGPT, open Settings > Apps, then click Create.
Fill in the app details:
- Name: CapRelay
- Description (optional): Search companies, use the Screener, and retrieve CapRelay research.
- Connection: https://www.caprelay.com/mcp
- Authentication: OAuth
Note: ChatGPT may ask you to confirm that you understand this is a custom MCP server that has not been reviewed by OpenAI.
Click Create. When ChatGPT prompts you to connect, sign in to CapRelay in the browser and click Approve on the consent page.
Open a new ChatGPT conversation, click the + button near the message composer, choose More, and select CapRelay.

Try this prompt:

The easiest path is to ask OpenClaw or Hermes Agent to add CapRelay for you. Copy the matching prompt below into your agent. If there's a failure that your agent believes is due to CapRelay, please send it to us.

Start browser sign-in, open the authorization URL, sign in to CapRelay, and approve access:

On a remote or headless host, use Hermes' paste-back flow: open the printed authorization URL locally, approve, then paste the final redirect URL back into the terminal.
Start or reload Hermes so it discovers CapRelay's tools:

In Hermes, try the first prompt below. Hermes registers MCP tools with an mcp_caprelay_ prefix, but you can usually ask for CapRelay by name.

Open Perplexity's Connector settings.
Click Custom connector, choose Remote, name it CapRelay, paste the URL, use OAuth authentication and Streamable HTTP transport, acknowledge Perplexity's warning, then add.
Find the CapRelay connector, click it, and then click Add Connector, sign in to CapRelay in the browser, and click Approve on the consent page.

Start a new Perplexity Computer chat session, connect/enable the CapRelay connector from Sources if prompted to, and try:

List the CapRelay MCP tools and resources, read caprelay://getting-started, then use CapRelay to search for AAPL and provide a brief summary of its bull-bear debate.

Plan and Connector Note

Perplexity custom remote connectors are available to Pro, Max, and Enterprise subscribers. On Enterprise workspaces, an admin may need to enable custom connectors or add the connector for the organization.

If you do not see the custom remote connector option, confirm that your Perplexity plan supports remote MCP connectors and that your organization allows member-added connectors.

First Prompt After Install

After signing in, open a new chat and ask your assistant to load CapRelay's MCP guidance and try a basic research task:

Troubleshooting

Login expires or CapRelay asks you to sign in again: Reconnect or re-authorize the CapRelay MCP server in your client. In Codex, run this Terminal command:
```
codex mcp login caprelay
```
In Claude, open Connectors, choose CapRelay, and click Connect again. In Claude Code, follow the login or reconnect prompt for caprelay. In ChatGPT, open Apps & Connectors, choose CapRelay, and reconnect or refresh the app. After signing in, open a new chat so the client reloads the CapRelay tools.
Login succeeds but tools do not appear: Open a new chat or reconnect the MCP server so your assistant refreshes its list of available tools.
Claude keeps asking for permission to use CapRelay: Turn on Always Allow for the CapRelay connector in Claude's connector settings. This only gives Claude permission to use CapRelay's website without asking you each time.
The browser login window does not open: Make sure you are on a recent version of your client (Codex, Claude, etc.) that supports MCP OAuth. Also confirm that a corporate network issue is not blocking access. You can also try using your client's login or re-authorize action for caprelay, then restart the client if it still does not launch the browser.
Access is denied: Please confirm that you are signed into an active CapRelay account. Trial users should have standard MCP access; if access still fails, please contact us.
Rate limits: MCP requests are subject to user limits. Agentic access is intended for human-directed research, not bulk export. For higher power-user limits or enterprise-level access, please contact us.

Data & Security

CapRelay MCP is scoped to CapRelay. It does not give CapRelay credentials or direct access to your organization's applications, systems, or data stores, so CapRelay cannot access, create, modify, or delete data there. Any permissions held by other tools connected to your agent remain separate.
