DESCRIPTION

Scotiabank (Bank of Nova Scotia) is one of Canada's Big Six banks, offering retail banking, commercial banking, wealth management, and capital markets services to customers across Canada and internationally. Canadian Banking is the largest segment, serving over 11 million customers through branches and digital channels with mortgages, deposits, credit cards, and loans. Scotiabank's Mortgage+ program bundles a mortgage with a day-to-day account to drive primary client relationships, and its Scene+ loyalty program with over 15 million members supports the cards business. Tangerine is Scotiabank's digital-only banking brand. International Banking serves over 8 million clients across Latin America and the Caribbean, with the largest presence in Mexico, Chile, and Peru, where Scotiabank operates as a full universal bank — a differentiator relative to Canadian peers. Global Banking and Markets (GBM) provides wholesale lending, capital markets, and M&A advisory across the Americas. Global Wealth Management — the fastest-growing segment — offers asset management, brokerage, and private banking, managing over $430B in AUM. Scotiabank earns primarily through net interest income (spread between lending and deposit rates) and fees from wealth management, trading, and advisory. Under CEO Scott Thomson's strategy launched in 2023, Scotiabank has shifted from volume-led loan growth to a relationship-first model focused on primary clients, capital reallocation toward higher-returning businesses, and growing recurring fee income. The bank also holds a minority stake in U.S. regional bank KeyCorp as part of its North American corridor focus.
