DESCRIPTION

Southern Missouri Bancorp is the holding company for Southern Bank, a Missouri-chartered community bank headquartered in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Southern Bank offers traditional banking services — lending and deposit-taking — to individuals, small and mid-sized businesses, and agricultural customers across Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, and Kansas. The bank operates 62 full-service branches organized into five regional markets spanning rural communities and suburban areas near mid-sized metros including Kansas City and St. Louis. Southern Bank's loan portfolio is heavily real estate-collateralized: commercial real estate accounts for roughly a third of loans, 1-4 family residential about a quarter, and multifamily around 10%. C&I and agricultural loans make up most of the remainder. Like most community banks, Southern Bank earns the majority of its revenue from net interest income — the spread between what it earns on loans and what it pays on deposits. The bank has grown primarily through acquisitions of smaller community banks, completing eight deals since 2014, and management continues to pursue further M&A, targeting smaller banks in Missouri, Arkansas, and adjacent states. Organic growth is driven by hiring commercial lenders in newer markets and expanding the loan pipeline.
