DESCRIPTION

Belden makes and sells network infrastructure hardware and solutions — cabling, fiber optic systems, connectors, switches, routers, and enclosures — that physically connect devices and systems in industrial and enterprise environments. Belden operates through two segments, though it is consolidating to one in 2026. Automation Solutions (~55% of revenue) provides industrial networking products including managed switches, routers, industrial wireless, and firewalls, along with professional services and its Belden Horizon data orchestration platform, serving verticals like discrete manufacturing, energy, warehousing, and transit. Smart Infrastructure Solutions (~45% of revenue) covers two businesses: Smart Buildings, which sells copper and fiber cabling and connectivity for enterprise networks in data centers, healthcare, and other commercial buildings; and Broadband Solutions, which sells fiber and copper connectivity products to cable operators upgrading their access networks. Belden sells through distributors, resellers, system integrators, and directly to OEMs. The core strategic shift is from selling individual hardware components to delivering engineered, multi-product solutions bundled with professional services — a transition management tracks via "solutions wins as a percentage of revenue," which reached 15% in FY25, targeting 20%+ by 2028. Belden argues it is uniquely positioned around IT/OT convergence, as industrial customers increasingly integrate factory-floor networks with IT systems — a need that spans both of Belden's segments. Belden also pursues tuck-in acquisitions to fill technology gaps, and returns capital via share buybacks, having reduced its share count by over 11% since 2021.
