DESCRIPTION

BorgWarner is a global Tier 1 automotive supplier that makes powertrain components and systems for combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles, selling directly to virtually every major OEM worldwide. The company's most important single product is turbochargers, which represent about 21% of total revenue. Turbochargers improve engine power output, fuel economy, and emissions by forcing more air into the engine, and BorgWarner claims a top-two global market position in this product. Beyond turbos, BorgWarner sells drivetrain and transmission components (transfer cases, clutch modules, chain systems, cam phasing systems) and electrification products (inverters, integrated drive modules, e-motors, and battery packs). BorgWarner operates through four segments: Turbos & Thermal Technologies (~40% of revenue), Drivetrain & Morse Systems (~39%), PowerDrive Systems (~16%, its core EV propulsion business), and Battery & Charging Systems (~4%). About 82% of revenue comes from what BorgWarner calls "Foundational" products (ICE and hybrid components), with the remaining ~18% from "eProducts" targeting EVs and hybrids. Revenue is directly tied to OEM production volumes, so BorgWarner's results move with vehicle production. Volkswagen and Ford are BorgWarner's two largest customers at roughly 10–13% of sales each, and about 84% of revenue is generated outside the U.S. BorgWarner's strategy focuses on defending its ICE portfolio through conquest wins while growing its eProduct business, particularly in hybrid platforms that draw content from both portfolios simultaneously. In early 2026, BorgWarner also announced a supply agreement to provide turbine generator systems for data center and microgrid applications, with production expected to begin in 2027.
