Minerals Technologies (MTI) is a specialty minerals company that mines, processes, and sells mineral-based products to industrial and consumer customers. MTI's two core businesses are private-label cat litter and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) for paper and packaging. MTI is the largest private-label cat litter supplier globally, producing sodium bentonite-based clumping and non-clumping litters sold to major retailers and national branded companies. For PCC, MTI uses a "satellite" model — building dedicated manufacturing plants adjacent to paper mills and packaging producers, signing long-term supply contracts under which customers commit to buying substantially all of their PCC requirements from MTI. MTI is the leading PCC supplier to the paper industry in North America. Beyond these two businesses, MTI sells specialty minerals to foundries (Green Sand Bonds for metal casting), refractory products and automated application systems (MINSCAN) to the steel industry, Bleaching Earth for edible oil and renewable fuel purification, and geosynthetic clay liners and PFAS remediation products for environmental applications. MTI operates two segments: Consumer & Specialties (~53% of revenue) and Engineered Solutions (~47%). MTI's growth strategy focuses on expanding into consumer-oriented markets, geographic expansion into Asia (where PCC penetration in paper and packaging is ~50% vs. essentially 100% in North America and Europe), and new product innovation. MTI targets ~18–19% of revenue from products developed within the last five years.
