DESCRIPTION

Capstone is a small U.S. and Canadian building products distributor focused on stone veneer and masonry products for residential and commercial construction. Its core subsidiary, Instone, is the largest U.S. wholesale distributor of thin veneer masonry products, operating five distribution centers across the Northeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and West Coast. Two 2025 acquisitions added Canadian Stone Industries (CSI), which distributes natural and manufactured stone in British Columbia and Ontario, and Carolina Stone, which distributes and installs stone products in the Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte markets. Capstone buys stone and masonry products from manufacturers and quarries, warehouses them, and resells at a markup to trade customers — masonry dealers, brick distributors, landscape yards, hearth dealers, and contractors. Capstone sells through a direct sales force and a B2B e-commerce platform, serving over 1,000 active customers across 38 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces. A key part of the value proposition is Capstone's breadth of over 3,000 SKUs, enabling trade customers to consolidate sourcing with a single supplier. Capstone also sells Toro Stone, its own proprietary manufactured stone brand. Revenue is exposed to residential and commercial construction cycles and is seasonal, with higher sales in Q2 and Q3. Capstone's longer-term strategy is explicitly acquisition-driven, controlled by private equity firm Brookstone Partners, which is pursuing consolidation of the fragmented stone and masonry distribution market to improve purchasing power and grow EBITDA.
