DESCRIPTION

Geron is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on blood cancers. Its sole commercial product is RYTELO (imetelstat), a first-in-class telomerase inhibitor approved by the FDA in June 2024 for adult patients with lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (LR-MDS) who have transfusion-dependent anemia and have not responded to, or are ineligible for, erythropoiesis-stimulating agents. The European Commission approved RYTELO in March 2025 for a similar patient population. MDS is a blood cancer in which malignant progenitor cells disrupt normal bone marrow blood production, causing severe anemia. RYTELO inhibits telomerase, an enzyme that allows malignant cells to replicate uncontrollably, and Geron argues this mechanism modifies the underlying disease rather than just treating symptoms. RYTELO is administered intravenously in clinical settings and sold through specialty pharmacies and distributors to hospitals and clinics under a buy-and-bill model. All current revenue comes from U.S. RYTELO sales. Geron's near-term growth strategy focuses on shifting prescribing toward second-line LR-MDS patients—where treatment duration is longer—expanding the community prescriber base, and pursuing EU commercialization through third-party partners in 2026. Geron is also running the Phase 3 IMpactMF trial in relapsed/refractory myelofibrosis, with an interim analysis expected in the second half of 2026, which could expand RYTELO's addressable patient population.
