DESCRIPTION

Republic Airways is a regional airline that flies passengers on behalf of American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines under the American Eagle, Delta Connection, and United Express brands. Republic is the second largest independent regional airline in the U.S. by fleet and daily departures, and one of the world's largest operators of Embraer E170/175 jets. Republic operates roughly 1,300 daily flights to around 130 cities with a fleet of 275 operational aircraft, exclusively Embraer E170/175 jets configured as dual-class regional jets. Republic's role is narrow: it provides the aircraft and crews that operate short-haul regional routes feeding into major airline hubs. The major carriers handle ticketing, pricing, marketing, fuel procurement, and ground handling. Republic's business model is built entirely on long-term Capacity Purchase Agreements (CPAs) with its partner airlines, under which Republic earns fixed fees per departure and block hour, while the partner airlines cover fuel, landing fees, and ground handling directly. This insulates Republic from fare competition, passenger load factors, and fuel price swings — making it more like a contracted services business than a traditional airline. Key profitability drivers are fleet size and utilization, cost efficiency, and flight completion rates. Following a November 2025 merger with Mesa Air Group, Republic's committed fleet grew to 306 aircraft. Republic also owns LIFT Academy, a flight school that trains pilots and feeds graduates directly into Republic's workforce — a meaningful advantage given pilot supply constraints across the industry.
