DESCRIPTION

Pilgrim's Pride is one of the largest chicken producers in the world, with additional pork and lamb operations in the U.K. The company produces, processes, and sells fresh, frozen, and value-added chicken and pork products to retailers, foodservice operators, and distributors across the U.S., Europe, and Mexico. The U.S. business is organized around three chicken product lines: Case Ready (pre-packaged fresh chicken sold to grocery chains), Small Bird (whole and cut-up birds sold to QSRs and deli), and Big Bird (large commodity birds sold to food processors and through open markets). Prepared Foods — fully cooked, breaded, and marinated products under brands including Just BARE, Pilgrim's, and Gold Kist — is a growing part of the U.S. business. In Europe, Pilgrim's operates through its Moy Park subsidiary and sells chicken, sausages, bacon, and cooked meats under brands including Richmond, Fridge Raiders, and Matteson's. In Mexico, Pilgrim's sells mostly fresh chicken through retail and foodservice channels, though a live chicken market adds meaningful volatility. Pilgrim's is vertically integrated, controlling the production chain from breeder flocks and feed mills through processing and distribution. Margins are driven by the spread between feed costs (corn and soybean meal) and chicken commodity prices for the Big Bird business, while Case Ready and Prepared Foods carry more stable, cost-plus pricing. Pilgrim's is investing heavily in a new Prepared Foods plant in Georgia, geographic expansion in Mexico, and U.K. chicken production growth. JBS, the world's largest meat company, owns 82% of Pilgrim's.
