Natural Alternatives International (NAI) is a private-label contract manufacturer of nutritional supplements. NAI handles formulation, manufacturing, testing, packaging, and regulatory compliance for customers — primarily brands in direct sales (network marketing), e-commerce, and retail — who sell the finished products under their own brand names. Contract manufacturing accounts for roughly 94% of net sales. Customer concentration is notable, with three customers each individually accounting for more than 10% of consolidated net sales. NAI operates manufacturing facilities in California and Switzerland, the latter enabling NAI to serve customers who need products manufactured and registered for international markets. NAI holds multiple third-party quality certifications, which are important to customers in sports nutrition and international markets. NAI's other business is its CarnoSyn beta-alanine patent estate, which generates revenue through direct raw material sales and licensing agreements. Beta-alanine is an amino acid used in sports nutrition products. NAI sells beta-alanine under three trademarks: CarnoSyn (instant release), SR CarnoSyn (sustained release), and TriBsyn, a newer formulation that eliminates the tingling sensation associated with standard beta-alanine. The instant-release CarnoSyn patents expire in July 2026, but SR CarnoSyn patents extend through 2036. NAI is working to expand beta-alanine beyond sports nutrition into wellness and healthy aging, using TriBsyn as its primary vehicle. NAI discontinued its direct-to-consumer brand in FY25, signaling a preference for B2B routes to market.
