DSS is a small diversified holding company with four business segments: Product Packaging, Biotechnology, Commercial Lending, and Securities and Investment Management. The anchor of DSS's current operations is Product Packaging, run through its wholly owned subsidiary Premier Packaging, which manufactures custom folding cartons, mailers, photo sleeves, and complex direct mail solutions for customers in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, consumer goods, food and beverage, and health and beauty. Premier also produces security-printed documents including prescription paper, vital records, and identification materials, operating out of Rochester, NY. The Biotechnology segment, operated through Impact BioMedical, is focused on R&D and IP development around therapeutic and wellness programs including antiviral compounds, a sugar substitute, and a botanical insect repellent — none of which are generating meaningful commercial revenue yet. Commercial Lending, run through American Pacific Financial, offers commercial lines of credit, land development financing, and equipment financing, and is early-stage. The Securities and Investment Management segment includes Sentinel Brokers, a FINRA-registered broker-dealer focused on municipal and corporate bond trading that recently received approval to underwrite IPOs, a healthcare-focused REIT, and a private investment bank. DSS's overarching corporate strategy follows a three-stage model: acquire assets, build revenue, then achieve positive EBITDA — ultimately taking subsidiaries public and distributing proceeds to shareholders, with the Impact BioMedical IPO in 2024 being the clearest example.
