DESCRIPTION

Champions Oncology is a contract research organization (CRO) focused exclusively on oncology drug development. Its core asset is a bank of roughly 1,500 Patient Derived Xenograft (PDX) models — actual patient tumors implanted and grown in mice — which pharma and biotech companies use to test experimental cancer drugs before human trials. Customers send Champions their drug compounds, and Champions runs studies testing those drugs against a panel of tumor models to help customers understand which cancer subtypes respond and which genetic markers predict sensitivity or resistance. Champions sells these research services directly through a dedicated sales force, targeting pharma and biotech companies across North America, Europe, and Asia. The core research services business is fee-for-service, with studies typically priced around $125,000, and larger regulatory-grade studies ranging up to $500,000. Champions is also building two higher-margin revenue streams on top of its existing TumorBank asset: a data licensing business, which monetizes its proprietary multi-omic dataset accumulated from years of studies, and a SaaS tool called Lumin Bioinformatics, which gives researchers access to Champions' dataset and AI-driven analytics. Champions also operates Corellia, a wholly-owned drug discovery subsidiary that uses Champions' dataset and AI tools to identify novel oncology drug targets, though Champions is seeking outside capital to fund Corellia toward clinical trials while retaining a partial ownership stake.
