DESCRIPTION

Accendra Health (formerly Owens & Minor) is a nationwide home-based care company that delivers medical equipment, supplies, and related services directly to patients at home. Accendra operates under two brands: Apria, which provides home respiratory therapy, sleep apnea treatment (CPAP and BiPAP devices and supplies), and other home medical equipment; and Byram Healthcare, which delivers disposable medical supplies for diabetes management, ostomy, wound care, urology, and incontinence. Following the December 2025 sale of its medical distribution and manufacturing segment to Platinum Equity for $375M, Accendra is now a pure-play home-based care company. Patients are referred to Accendra by physicians, and Accendra handles order fulfillment, delivery, insurance billing, and patient support. Accendra generates revenue primarily through fee-for-service arrangements, billing Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial insurers each time it delivers a product or service. Key revenue drivers include patient volume, therapy mix, payor collection rates, and reimbursement rates set through Medicare competitive bidding and payor contract negotiations. Sleep therapy is the fastest-growing and highest-margin category, while diabetes supplies face headwinds from patients shifting to pharmacy channels. Accendra's growth strategy centers on preferred provider agreements with large payer networks, technology investment to improve patient adherence and lower costs, and revenue cycle improvements to reduce billing leakage.
