DESCRIPTION

Olin is a U.S.-based manufacturer operating two distinct businesses: industrial chemicals and ammunition. On the chemicals side, Olin is the largest chlor alkali producer in North America, and claims to be the largest globally. Its core product is the Electrochemical Unit (ECU) — running electricity through salt brine co-produces chlorine and caustic soda at a fixed ratio. Chlorine goes into PVC production, water treatment, and chemical manufacturing, while caustic soda goes into alumina refining, pulp and paper, and detergents. Olin further processes chlorine downstream into ethylene dichloride, vinyl chloride monomer, chlorinated organics, and bleach to extract more value from each ECU. Olin also operates an epoxy business — producing resins and specialty solutions used in wind turbine blades, coatings, and composites — which it describes as the last fully integrated epoxy producer in both North America and Europe. Olin's ammunition business operates under the Winchester brand, manufacturing small caliber ammunition sold to commercial customers, law enforcement, and the U.S. and allied militaries. Winchester also operates the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant under a government-owned, contractor-operated contract with the U.S. Army. Winchester sells commercially through sporting goods retailers and mass merchants, and sells to the military through direct government contracts. Olin's near-term priorities include a $250M+ structural cost reduction program, exploring entry into the PVC resin market by leveraging its integrated EDC and VCM production, and growing Winchester's military and international revenue base.
