DESCRIPTION

Tofutti makes and sells plant-based, dairy-free food products under the Tofutti brand. The product line covers two categories: cheese alternatives (Better Than Cream Cheese, Better Than Sour Cream, Better Than Ricotta, and American Vegan Cheese Slices) and frozen desserts (premium pint ice cream and Tofutti Cuties, bite-sized dairy-free ice cream sandwiches and the company's best-selling product). All products are vegan, cholesterol-free, and Kosher-parve certified, with cheese products and Tofutti Cuties also Halal certified. Tofutti targets consumers who avoid dairy for health, lifestyle, or religious reasons. Tofutti sells through independent food brokers to distributors, who supply health food stores, supermarkets, and food service outlets. Health food accounts are the largest channel, followed by international distributors and the Kosher market. Tofutti is an asset-light branded food company with only five full-time employees — it owns no manufacturing facilities and instead relies on four co-packers who manufacture products using Tofutti-supplied ingredients and packaging. Franklin Foods is the most important co-packer, supplying roughly half of finished goods. Tofutti has no written production agreements with its co-packers, which creates meaningful supply chain risk. Tofutti is primarily a U.S. business, with Metropolitan New York its largest domestic market. International sales, shipped to roughly eight countries, represent about 15% of revenue, with all foreign transactions denominated in U.S. dollars.
