DESCRIPTION

Key Tronic is a contract electronics manufacturer (EMS provider) that builds finished products and subassemblies for OEM customers across industries including telecommunications, aerospace, medical devices, energy storage, and more. Customers outsource production to Key Tronic rather than running their own manufacturing operations. Key Tronic's services span PCB assembly, plastic injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, complex product assembly, and component sourcing — essentially handling the full bill of materials under a turnkey model. A key differentiator Key Tronic argues is its design and engineering support: by helping customers develop products, Key Tronic embeds itself into programs early, making it harder to displace in production. Key Tronic operates manufacturing facilities across the U.S., Mexico, Vietnam, and China, giving customers tariff mitigation options. Mexico has historically been the largest hub, though Key Tronic is investing heavily in a new Arkansas facility and expanding its Vietnam footprint, targeting roughly half of production in U.S. and Vietnam by 2026. Revenue includes a large material pass-through component, so gross margins are thin. Profitability is highly sensitive to revenue volume given a largely fixed cost structure. Key Tronic sells direct, typically without long-term volume commitments — customers can extend, delay, or cancel orders — making revenue volatile. In FY25, the top five customers accounted for 48% of sales, with a single customer representing 25%.
