DESCRIPTION

Abeona Therapeutics is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on cell and gene therapies for rare genetic diseases. Its sole commercial product is ZEVASKYN (prademagene zamikeracel), which received FDA approval in April 2025 as the first autologous cell-based gene therapy for recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB), a severe genetic skin disease that causes chronic open wounds. ZEVASKYN works by taking a biopsy of the patient's own skin cells, inserting a functioning copy of the defective gene, growing the corrected cells into sheets, and surgically applying those sheets over wound areas — a roughly 25-day manufacturing process that enables durable wound closure from a single application. Abeona sells ZEVASKYN through a network of Qualified Treatment Centers (specialized hospitals), recognizing revenue at the time of surgical administration. Abeona prices treatments at a floor of $1.5M per treatment and estimates roughly 1,500 total U.S. treatment opportunities across approximately 750 eligible patients. Manufacturing capacity is the primary near-term constraint, with Abeona ramping from four treatments per month at launch to a target of 200+ annual treatments by late 2027. Beyond ZEVASKYN, Abeona has an early-stage pipeline of AAV-based gene therapies for ophthalmic diseases, and has out-licensed programs in Sanfilippo syndrome and Rett syndrome to Ultragenyx and Taysha, respectively, for potential milestones and royalties.
