DESCRIPTION

Barclays Bank PLC (BBPLC) is the wholesale, investment banking, and international operating subsidiary of Barclays PLC, distinct from the UK retail bank. BBPLC operates across four businesses: an Investment Bank, a US Consumer Bank, a UK Corporate Bank, and a Private Bank and Wealth Management division. The Investment Bank is the largest segment and the primary driver of earnings, covering Global Markets (sales and trading in fixed income, equities, currencies, and commodities) and Investment Banking (M&A advisory and debt and equity capital markets). BBPLC generates revenue through two main streams: net interest income (NII) from the spread between lending and funding rates, and non-interest income from trading, advisory fees, and wealth management fees. The US Consumer Bank operates a credit card portfolio, generating NII from revolving balances, and in 2025 expanded into personal lending through the acquisition of Best Egg. The UK Corporate Bank provides lending, deposits, trade finance, and cash management to UK businesses. The Private Bank and Wealth Management division serves high-net-worth individuals with banking, lending, and investment services. BBPLC has a primarily transatlantic footprint, with significant US exposure across both the credit card book and investment banking. As a wholly-owned subsidiary, BBPLC's capital allocation is governed by parent Barclays PLC, and regulated by the PRA in the UK and the Federal Reserve for US operations.
