DESCRIPTION

Salspera is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company with a single pipeline asset, Saltikva, targeting solid tumor cancers. Saltikva is a genetically engineered, attenuated strain of Salmonella Typhimurium modified to express IL-2, a cytokine that activates immune cells to attack cancer. The key mechanism: Salmonella naturally colonizes the oxygen-depleted environments inside solid tumors, allowing Saltikva to deliver IL-2 directly within the tumor rather than systemically, which has historically caused severe toxicity. Saltikva is taken orally, unlike most immunotherapies which require infusions. The primary target indication is Stage IV metastatic pancreatic cancer, where Salspera completed a Phase 2 trial showing meaningful improvements in progression-free and overall survival versus historical controls when combined with FOLFIRINOX chemotherapy. Salspera is now preparing a pivotal Phase 3 randomized controlled trial. Secondary pipeline targets include osteosarcoma and metastatic colorectal cancer, both at earlier stages. Salspera has no approved products and no revenue. The intended commercial model involves selling Saltikva to hospitals and oncology practices as an oral adjunct to chemotherapy, with commercialization handled through partnerships with regional or global pharmaceutical companies rather than an in-house salesforce. Longer term, Salspera argues its Salmonella-based bacterial platform can be engineered to express proteins beyond IL-2, providing a foundation for additional oncology programs.
