DESCRIPTION

PowerBank is a small Canadian renewable energy company that develops, builds, and owns solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the US and Canada. PowerBank operates through two core activities: EPC contracting and independent power production (IPP). On the EPC side, PowerBank originates projects — securing land, permits, and grid interconnection — then either sells the project to a third-party buyer for a development fee while retaining the construction contract, or builds it directly as EPC contractor. Anchor EPC customers include Honeywell and Qcells. On the IPP side, PowerBank owns and operates solar assets that generate recurring electricity revenue, a portfolio that expanded significantly following the July 2024 acquisition of Solar Flow-Through Funds, which added 70 operating solar sites in Ontario. Ontario IPP assets sell power under long-term Feed-in-Tariff contracts, while New York assets participate in community solar programs. PowerBank also earns fees for maintaining third-party solar assets. PowerBank's stated strategy is to grow its owned IPP portfolio and reduce reliance on lumpy EPC revenue, targeting more predictable recurring cash flows. Key growth initiatives include a roughly 20-project community solar pipeline in New York, three BESS projects in Ontario backed by long-term capacity contracts with the Ontario grid operator, and an early-stage utility-scale solar pipeline of roughly 800 MW across New York, Arizona, California, and Nevada. PowerBank finances IPP projects on a non-recourse project loan basis and monetizes US solar investment tax credits through third-party tax credit transfer agreements. The company remains pre-profitability.
