DESCRIPTION

Lionsgate Studios is a film and television content company that produces, acquires, and distributes movies and TV programming globally. On the film side, Lionsgate develops content in-house and acquires distribution rights to third-party films, releasing them theatrically before monetizing through a sequential window system — premium video-on-demand, home entertainment, pay television, and streaming. Key owned franchises include The Hunger Games, John Wick, and Saw. On the television side, Lionsgate develops and licenses scripted and unscripted series to broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming platforms domestically and internationally. The television segment includes 3 Arts Entertainment, a majority-owned talent management company that serves as a pipeline for new content. Underpinning both businesses is a library of over 20,000 film and television titles that generates recurring licensing revenue. Lionsgate sells to theatrical exhibitors, digital platforms (Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Hulu, Peacock), broadcast and cable networks, and international distributors. Amazon represented roughly 14% of total revenue in FY2024. Lionsgate funds its content slate through production loans, tax credit facilities, co-financing arrangements, and international pre-sales. Lionsgate positions itself as an independent, "pure play" content studio — unaffiliated with any major streaming platform — which it argues makes it a preferred third-party supplier. The company also operates 13 FAST channels and is pursuing franchise extensions across live entertainment, gaming, and location-based experiences.
