DESCRIPTION

Cuprina is a Singapore-based biomedical company focused on chronic wound care. Its core product is MEDIFLY, a line of sterile medical-grade live maggots used in Maggot Debridement Therapy (MDT), where maggots are applied to a chronic wound for 48–72 hours to dissolve dead tissue and kill bacteria, including antibiotic-resistant strains. MEDIFLY comes in two formats: free-range and "Baggots," a contained pouch version. Cuprina breeds maggots in-house at its Singapore lab, keeping input costs largely internal. MEDIFLY is sold directly to hospitals and clinics in Singapore and through an exclusive distribution partner in Hong Kong, with no long-term contracts — orders are placed on a case-by-case basis. MEDIFLY is covered under Singapore's MediSave scheme and subsidized at Hong Kong public hospitals, which supports adoption. Cuprina also runs a small cosmeceuticals business selling skincare and sports recovery products through gyms, retailers, and online platforms in Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia; this segment is largely outsourced to OEM manufacturers and distribution partners. Beyond these two businesses, Cuprina is developing bullfrog collagen wound dressings (licensed from NTU), medical leech therapy, and an iodine-based antiseptic — all in early stages. Cuprina is also building an IVF media production facility and has licensed a medical waste recycling technology for Singapore and Southeast Asia. The company has 10 employees and is currently loss-making.
