DESCRIPTION

Semilux International is a small Taiwan-based technology company pivoting from its legacy optical components business toward automotive sensing systems and, more recently, UAV/defense applications. The legacy business — still the primary revenue source — produces color filters, filter wheels, fluorescent chips, wafer-level optics, and laser light modules sold to manufacturers in the projector, automotive lighting, and sensor industries. Semilux has supplied laser headlight components to BMW via Tier-1 supplier Osram Continental since 2018. The company's strategic focus is developing solid-state LiDAR sensors and Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) headlight systems for the automotive ADAS and autonomous driving market. Semilux designs proprietary chips in-house, outsources wafer fabrication to Taiwanese semiconductor foundries, and assembles modules at its Central Taiwan Science Park facilities. Semilux operates as a Tier-2 automotive supplier, targeting Tier-1 partners including Foxconn, ZF Group, and Pegatron, who integrate Semilux's technology into systems sold to OEMs. Both LiDAR and ADB product lines are pre-revenue, currently in prototype and validation stages, with mass production targeted in two to three years. In mid-2024, Semilux added a second strategic pivot toward AI-integrated drone platforms for defense and industrial applications, also in early prototype stages. Both pivots rely on Taiwan's semiconductor ecosystem for cost-competitive chip production and on R&D partnerships with National Chung Hsing University.
