DESCRIPTION

ASEP Medical is an early-stage Canadian life sciences company with no commercial products or meaningful revenue. ASEP operates through three core development programs. The first is SepsetER, a rapid sepsis diagnostic that measures a patient's immune response by analyzing the expression of 6 genes in a blood sample, delivering a binary result in roughly 1 hour — compared to the 13-48 hours typical of standard blood culture methods. SepsetER is intended for hospital emergency departments and ICUs, and ASEP is pursuing FDA 510(k) clearance. Commercially, SepsetER would generate per-test revenue sold to hospitals, with international markets addressed through joint ventures in China (with Sansure Biotech) and the Middle East and North Africa (with Seaspring). The second program, ABT Innovations, develops patented antimicrobial peptides designed to penetrate and disrupt biofilms — bacterial colonies that are highly resistant to conventional antibiotics. Target indications include chronic rhinosinusitis, wound infections, and oral health. These therapeutics would require full FDA NDA approval, though some oral health applications may avoid clinical trials entirely. The third program, SafeCoat, holds a license from UBC for a medical device coating that prevents bacterial adhesion, targeting contact lenses and potentially implants and catheters. ASEP operates as a virtual company with no owned labs, conducting all R&D through UBC. The company is pre-revenue and reliant on equity and debt financing, with going concern qualifications issued by its auditors.
