RanMarine Technology is a Rotterdam-based company that designs and manufactures autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) — electric, drone-like watercraft that clean waterways and collect environmental data. Founded in 2016, RanMarine's core product is the WasteShark, a small catamaran-style drone that skims harbors, canals, rivers, and marinas to collect floating debris, plastics, and algae, while also carrying sensors to monitor water quality in real time. The WasteShark operates autonomously or via remote control, runs on batteries, and can remove up to 1,000 lbs of waste per day. As of early 2024, RanMarine had shipped 102 units globally to customers including municipalities, port authorities, hotels, theme parks, and NGOs. RanMarine sells directly and through distributors, including Poralu Marine, which resells the WasteShark across 42 global distributorships. Today, most revenue comes from one-time hardware sales, but RanMarine is building recurring revenue through mandatory SaaS subscriptions (RanMarine Connect), leasing options, and a sponsorship model where corporates fund WasteShark placements for ESG reporting purposes.
