DESCRIPTION

ECB Bancorp is the holding company for Everett Co-operative Bank, a community bank headquartered in Everett, Massachusetts, founded in 1890 and converted from mutual to stock ownership via a 2022 Nasdaq IPO. The bank operates three full-service branches in the greater Boston area and serves local homeowners, real estate investors, and small businesses across Middlesex, Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk Counties. Everett Co-operative Bank runs a traditional community bank model: it takes in deposits and FHLB advances at lower rates, deploys those funds into real estate loans at higher rates, and earns net interest income on the spread. Real estate lending dominates the ~$1.4B loan portfolio, split across one-to-four family residential (34%), multifamily (31%), commercial real estate (24%), construction (6%), and home equity (4%). Since the IPO, the bank has been deliberately shifting its mix toward higher-yielding commercial real estate and multifamily loans, hiring experienced credit staff and retaining larger loans it previously would have sold off. The portfolio is heavily variable-rate, making NII sensitive to interest rate moves. Deposits fund roughly 80% of the balance sheet, with certificates of deposit making up the majority, supplemented by brokered deposits and FHLB borrowings. The bank's growth strategy centers on expanding its commercial lending capabilities, growing core retail deposits to reduce reliance on higher-cost funding, and adding branches, with a Medford location pending.
