DESCRIPTION

DEFSEC Technologies (formerly KWESST Micro Systems) is a small, early-stage Canadian defense technology company based in Ottawa that develops and sells tactical systems for military and public safety customers. DEFSEC operates across three product lines: less-lethal munitions, digitization services, and counter-threat systems. The digitization segment, which accounts for roughly 81% of revenue, consists primarily of software engineering services delivered on a task-order basis as a subcontractor to large prime defense contractors — notably Thales Canada and General Dynamics — working on Canadian Department of National Defence programs including Land C4ISR and the Defence Software Engineering Facility. Revenue in this segment scales with headcount and task-order volume. The less-lethal segment (roughly 18% of revenue) centers on ARWEN, an established 37mm/40mm launcher system with a 30-year history in law enforcement, which generates recurring ammunition sales alongside launcher purchases. DEFSEC is also commercializing PARA SHOT, a next-generation cartridge-based less-lethal system targeting U.S. law enforcement and, eventually, the civilian self-defense market. The counter-threat line includes BLDS, a battlefield laser detection system, and Phantom, an electronic warfare decoy currently on hold. DEFSEC is pre-profitability and has funded operations through repeated equity and debt financings. Its near-term priorities are scaling billings under its Canadian DND contracts and completing the U.S. rollout of PARA SHOT, while a longer-term goal is entering the public safety market with DEFSEC Lightning, a cloud-based SaaS platform for critical incident management.
