Akanda is an early-stage holding company that operates through two segments: telecom infrastructure in Mexico and cannabis cultivation in Canada. The telecom segment, First Towers, owns a 700+ km dark fiber network and 27 wireless towers in Central Mexico. First Towers generates recurring revenue by leasing fiber capacity and tower space to telecom operators under long-term contracts. Telefonica serves as the anchor tenant for the fiber network under a 20-year lease agreement. The telecom business model relies on shared infrastructure, which allows First Towers to lease space on a single tower to multiple tenants to increase revenue per asset. The cannabis segment focuses on a cultivation project on Gabriola Island, British Columbia, where Akanda holds an option to purchase land for THC and CBD production. This business is currently pre-revenue and has not yet produced any products. The Canadian project follows the liquidation, sale, or closure of Akanda's former medical cannabis operations in Lesotho, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. Akanda currently focuses on managing its Mexican infrastructure assets and establishing its cultivation operations in the Canadian market.
