DESCRIPTION

WeRide is a China-headquartered autonomous driving company focused on Level 4 (L4) driverless vehicles — meaning no human driver required. Its flagship product is the robotaxi, which passengers hail through a mobile app and which operates commercially in China (primarily Beijing and Guangzhou) and internationally across the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia, with a fleet of over 1,100 vehicles. Beyond robotaxis, WeRide offers three additional L4 product lines: the Robobus (autonomous public transit), Robovan (urban freight delivery), and Robosweeper (municipal street cleaning). WeRide also sells an L2+ ADAS product, WePilot 3.0, to OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers including Bosch, Chery, and GAC — a business that both generates revenue and feeds real-world driving data back into WeRide's L4 development. WeRide earns revenue through vehicle sales, recurring service fees over each vehicle's life, and revenue sharing from ride fares. In China, WeRide owns and operates its robotaxi fleet directly. Internationally, WeRide uses an asset-light model where local partners like Uber and Grab own the vehicles, while WeRide collects upfront vehicle sale proceeds plus ongoing service fees and fare revenue sharing. The ADAS business with Bosch operates on a develop-and-license model, with upfront development fees and per-unit royalties. WeRide's core economic thesis is that removing the human driver — who typically takes roughly 60% of revenue in traditional ride-hailing — creates compelling unit economics at scale.
