DESCRIPTION

Journey Medical is a small commercial-stage pharmaceutical company focused on branded prescription dermatology drugs in the U.S. Journey acquires or licenses drugs, obtains FDA approval where needed, and sells them through a direct sales force calling on dermatologists. Journey does not manufacture anything, relying entirely on contract manufacturers. The company sells primarily through specialty pharmacies, independent wholesalers, and distributors. Journey's flagship product is Emrosi, an oral minocycline extended-release capsule for rosacea in adults, FDA-approved in late 2024 and launched in April 2025. Emrosi is positioned to displace Oracea, the dominant oral rosacea brand for roughly 20 years, based on head-to-head clinical trial data showing superiority. The rest of the portfolio includes Qbrexza, a topical wipe for excessive underarm sweating and currently the largest revenue contributor; Accutane, an oral retinoid for severe acne under license from Dr. Reddy's; Amzeeq and Zilxi, topical minocycline products for acne and rosacea; and several legacy products in decline. Journey's revenue is driven by prescription volumes, net pricing, and payer reimbursement. A key dynamic is the gap between prescription volume and net revenue per script — Emrosi's net revenue per prescription improves materially as managed care formulary coverage expands, which Journey is actively pursuing through GPO contracts. The cost structure is largely fixed, so incremental Emrosi revenue carries high operating leverage. Beyond Emrosi, Journey plans to launch additional niche dermatology products using its existing sales infrastructure, and out-licenses its products internationally to generate milestone and royalty income.
