AccuStem Sciences is a clinical-stage oncology diagnostics company developing genomic tests to help physicians manage cancer patients. AccuStem has not yet generated revenue and expects to need at least 18 months to complete the steps required for commercial launch. Its two lead products are licensed from IEO and the University of Milan, with royalties due as a single-digit percentage of net sales once revenue begins. The first product, MSC (MicroRNA Signature Classifier), is a blood-based test analyzing 24 miRNAs to classify lung nodules detected by CT screening as benign or malignant, helping physicians decide between biopsy and watchful monitoring. The second, StemPrintER, is a 20-gene assay that predicts distant recurrence risk in ER+/HER2-negative breast cancer patients by measuring tumor "stemness," helping oncologists decide whether to add chemotherapy to standard endocrine therapy. AccuStem plans to generate revenue through reimbursement from private insurers and Medicare, and has filed a CMS coverage application for MSC. Rather than building its own lab, AccuStem has partnered with EmeritusDx to process and report test results. AccuStem also plans to bundle standard commodity tests alongside its proprietary assays to increase revenue per physician relationship. The company has only four full-time employees and has not yet commercially launched either product.
