Archer Aviation is developing eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) aircraft for commercial air taxi operations. Its core product is Midnight, a piloted aircraft designed to carry four passengers on short urban trips of roughly 20 miles, with low noise and redundant electric motors as key design priorities. Archer is pre-revenue and pursuing two near-term commercial tracks: an international Launch Edition program, where Archer sells small fleets of Midnight aircraft to governments and operators ahead of full FAA certification, with partners in the UAE, Indonesia, Ethiopia, South Korea, and Japan; and a U.S. commercialization path tied to FAA type certification, with the 2028 LA Olympics as a key launch milestone. For U.S. operations, Archer plans to work with United Airlines and Southwest to integrate eVTOL flights into passenger journeys. Beyond air taxi, Archer has a defense segment, developing a hybrid-electric autonomous VTOL aircraft in partnership with Anduril for military and dual-use applications, and sells its electric powertrain technology to defense partners. Archer is also developing AI-based aviation software for air traffic management and operations, in partnership with Palantir. Aircraft sales are the primary planned revenue driver, at roughly $10M–$15M per aircraft under the Launch Edition program, bundled with pilots, technicians, and MRO support. Archer has over 1,000 patent assets, accumulated partly through acquisitions of IP from Overair, Karem Aircraft, and Lilium.
