Skillz operates two businesses: a competitive mobile gaming platform and an AI-powered advertising technology platform called RZR (formerly Aarki). The gaming platform lets mobile game developers integrate a software SDK that adds real-money, skill-based tournaments to their games — covering matchmaking, payment processing, leaderboards, and anti-cheat. Players pay entry fees to compete, and Skillz and the developer share a portion of that pool, turning casual mobile games like puzzles, solitaire, and bingo into prize-based competitive experiences. Skillz had roughly 155,000 paying monthly active users as of Q3 2025. RZR is a programmatic advertising platform that uses machine learning to help app developers and brands acquire and retain users across mobile, connected television, and other digital channels, optimizing ad bidding and targeting in real time. RZR serves verticals including gaming, retail, food and beverage, and entertainment, and has been growing rapidly. Skillz's gaming revenue is driven by total entry fees flowing through its platform, while RZR earns revenue on a performance basis from advertisers. A key cost driver is marketing spend, split between user acquisition and engagement marketing for existing players. Skillz remains unprofitable. On the growth side, Skillz launched a $75M Developer Accelerator Program in early 2025 to fund up to 25 new games over three years, and launched Skillz Arcade — a single app hosting over a dozen games — to improve cross-game engagement. Skillz also sees RZR and the gaming platform as mutually reinforcing, with RZR powering user acquisition for developers while developer growth feeds more data into RZR's models.
