DESCRIPTION

Ebang International is a China-founded technology company in the middle of a significant strategic pivot. The company's legacy businesses are ASIC-based Bitcoin mining machines (sold under the "Ebit" brand using a fabless chip design model) and fiber-optic and enterprise telecom devices sold to Chinese telecom operators. Ebang is actively de-emphasizing both of these in favor of two newer growth areas: fintech and renewable energy, both operated out of Australia. On the fintech side, Ebang runs Ebonex, a cryptocurrency exchange targeting retail and institutional customers, and EbonFX, a cross-border payments and FX platform serving SMEs and high-net-worth individuals — the latter acquired in 2022 from an established Australian FX specialist. Ebonex earns trading fees and spreads; EbonFX earns spreads against market rates and premiums on hedging products like forwards and options. In renewable energy, Ebang acquired Redback Technologies in 2024, which sells hybrid solar inverters and battery storage systems through a wholesale/installer distribution network, and operates Luceo, a SaaS energy monitoring platform sold to distribution network providers for safety analysis, power quality monitoring, and ESG reporting. Ebang has entered these new markets primarily through acquisitions, building a regulatory footprint in Australia that includes AFSL licenses and AUSTRAC registrations, as well as SFC licenses in Hong Kong.
