DESCRIPTION

Huize is an online insurance distribution platform in China that connects consumers with insurance products underwritten by third-party insurers. Huize acts as a licensed broker and agent — it does not underwrite insurance itself — and earns commission fees on premiums facilitated. Huize's core product is long-term life and health insurance, which accounts for roughly 90% of brokerage income, with the remainder from property and casualty products like travel and accident insurance. Within life and health, annuity and participating whole-life products are the dominant and fastest-growing line, as declining bank deposit rates in China have pushed consumers toward floating-return insurance products. Huize differentiates itself by co-developing customized products with insurer partners, leveraging its actuarial capabilities to propose pricing and coverage terms. These co-developed products typically carry higher commission rates than off-the-shelf alternatives. Customers access Huize through its website, mobile app, and WeChat. Huize also distributes through a network of "key opinion leaders" — social media influencers including actuaries, doctors, and financial advisors — who direct followers to the platform for a fee. Huize has cumulatively served 12.3M insurance clients. Beyond its core China business, Huize is expanding into Southeast Asia through its Poni Insurtech arm, which includes a majority stake in Global Care, a Vietnam-based insurtech platform, and an insurance broker license in Singapore. Huize has also deployed AI agents across underwriting, customer service, and claims processing to reduce operating costs.
