DESCRIPTION

ChargePoint sells EV charging hardware, software, and services to businesses, fleet operators, and consumers who want to deploy charging infrastructure. ChargePoint is not a charging station operator — it sells the equipment and software that allow others to build and run their own networks. ChargePoint's two main products are networked charging stations (Level 2 AC and Level 3 DC fast chargers) sold to site hosts like workplaces, retailers, municipalities, and fleet depots, and a cloud-based Charger Management System (CMS) sold on a per-port subscription basis that lets station owners remotely monitor, manage, and price their chargers. Hardware accounts for roughly 53% of revenue, while software subscriptions account for roughly 39-40% and carry gross margins above 60%. ChargePoint also sells warranty and support programs, installation services, and a consumer home charger. ChargePoint's core strategy is land-and-expand: win an initial deployment, then grow with the customer as EV adoption increases utilization and triggers expansion purchases. Because ChargePoint does not own or operate stations itself, the model is capital-light relative to charging station operators. ChargePoint also manages roughly 130,000 third-party hardware ports on its CMS, expanding its addressable market beyond customers who buy ChargePoint hardware. ChargePoint operates primarily in North America, which represents roughly 83% of revenue, with Europe at 17% and growing. ChargePoint is rolling out next-generation AC and DC hardware with improved margins, and has partnered with Eaton to bundle charging hardware with electrical infrastructure.
