Seer makes and sells the Proteograph Product Suite, an integrated platform for large-scale, unbiased proteomics — the measurement of proteins in biological samples like blood plasma. Traditional targeted proteomic methods (Olink, SomaScan) measure a predefined set of proteins using antibodies, while traditional unbiased mass spectrometry approaches were too labor-intensive to run at scale. Seer's platform uses proprietary engineered nanoparticles that capture broad slices of the proteome without targeting specific proteins in advance; prepared samples are then read by mass spectrometry, enabling peptide-level resolution across thousands of proteins per sample. The latest generation, Proteograph ONE (launched May 2025), processes over 1,000 samples per week and detects approximately 9,000 proteins per sample. Seer's business model mirrors that of genomic instrument companies: Seer places automation instruments with customers, then generates recurring revenue from consumable kits required to run each batch of samples. Seer also runs fee-for-service Technology Access Centers (STACs) where customers can access the platform without owning an instrument, and a Strategic Instrument Placement Program (SIPP) that loans instruments to capital-constrained customers in exchange for upfront consumable purchases.
