Nutrien is the world's largest potash producer and one of the largest crop input companies overall. Nutrien operates across the full agricultural supply chain — mining and manufacturing fertilizers upstream, and selling inputs directly to farmers downstream. Upstream, Nutrien produces potash at six mines in Saskatchewan (roughly 20% of global production), nitrogen products at facilities across Canada and the U.S., and phosphate at facilities in North Carolina and Florida (currently under strategic review). For international potash sales outside North America, Nutrien sells exclusively through Canpotex, a jointly owned export company. Downstream, Nutrien's Retail segment — the largest by revenue — operates over 1,800 locations in North America, Australia, and South America, selling crop nutrients, crop protection products, seed, and agronomic services directly to farmers. Retail's profitability is increasingly driven by proprietary branded products (crop protection, specialty nutrients, and seed), which carry higher margins than commodity inputs and offset pressure from generic competition. Nutrien's integrated model allows upstream production to supply the Retail network at competitive costs, while Retail provides a direct farmer channel. Nutrien's growth strategy focuses on low-cost potash volume expansion at existing mines, nitrogen reliability improvements, and growing its proprietary Retail product portfolio.
