DESCRIPTION

Adient is the world's largest automotive seat supplier, designing, manufacturing, and delivering complete seat systems and components — including frames, foam, trim covers, mechanisms, head restraints, and armrests — to virtually every major global OEM. Adient's core product is the just-in-time (JIT) seat assembly, where Adient assembles seats to a specific order and delivers them sequentially to the OEM's assembly line within a narrow window, typically 120-180 minutes. This requires Adient to operate plants physically adjacent to each customer's vehicle plant, creating a sticky, relationship-driven business with high switching costs. Adient sells exclusively to OEMs, including Volkswagen, Stellantis, GM, Ford, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai/Kia, and Chinese domestic OEMs like BYD and Geely, across ~200 facilities in 29 countries. Adient also holds several unconsolidated joint ventures in China that generate meaningful equity income. Adient manages its business across three regions: Americas (~33% of revenue), EMEA (~32%), and Asia (~35%), with Asia — primarily China — being its largest market and growth engine. Adient is vertically integrated, manufacturing foam, cut-and-sew trim covers, and seat frames in-house alongside final JIT assembly, giving it cost control and more content per vehicle. Near-term priorities include winning share with Chinese domestic OEMs (targeting ~60% of China revenue from domestic OEMs by 2027), capturing incremental U.S. volume from OEM onshoring driven by tariffs, restructuring the underperforming EMEA business, and accelerating plant-level automation and AI investment.
