DESCRIPTION

Monopar Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company with two programs: a late-stage treatment for Wilson disease and an early-stage radiopharmaceutical platform targeting cancer. Wilson disease is a rare genetic disorder causing toxic copper buildup in the liver and brain. Monopar's lead asset, ALXN1840 (tiomolybdate choline), is an oral, once-daily small molecule that selectively removes copper from tissues and blood. Monopar licensed ALXN1840 from Alexion (AstraZeneca) in October 2024 after Alexion elected not to continue development, paying $4M in cash plus 9.9% equity, and is obligated to pay up to $94M in milestones plus tiered royalties of 10–20% on net sales. ALXN1840 has completed a Phase 3 trial that met its primary endpoint, and Monopar plans to submit an NDA to the FDA in mid-2026. Monopar's radiopharmaceutical platform is built around MNPR-101, a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting uPAR, a protein highly expressed on several aggressive cancers. MNPR-101 acts as a delivery vehicle for radioactive isotopes to tumors, enabling both imaging and cancer-killing applications across three candidates at various stages of development. Monopar has no marketed products and no product revenue, funding operations through equity raises. The company has 22 employees and contracts out most clinical, manufacturing, and scientific work.
