DESCRIPTION

Nano Dimension is an industrial manufacturing technology company that makes 3D printing equipment, software, and materials (additive manufacturing, or AM) and electronics assembly equipment. Its AM products are sold under the Markforged brand (industrial 3D printers for polymer, composite, and metal parts using fused filament fabrication and binder jetting) and the DragonFly brand (electronics-focused AM). Markforged, acquired in April 2025, is now Nano Dimension's largest revenue contributor and brings an installed base of roughly 15,000 systems globally. Nano Dimension also sells surface-mount technology (SMT) equipment for assembling electronics onto circuit boards through Essemtec, and inkjet sub-components for industrial OEMs through Global Inkjet Systems. The company targets aerospace & defense, automotive, electronics, and medical customers — industries where part complexity or performance justify a premium over traditional manufacturing. Nano Dimension's business model follows a razor-and-blade dynamic: hardware is sold as a one-time purchase, but printers require proprietary materials (metal powders, filaments, polymers), generating recurring consumables revenue. Recurring software revenue comes from subscriptions to Markforged's cloud-based Digital Forge platform. Management's focus is on shifting toward higher-margin software and consumables revenue, cutting costs, and leveraging the Markforged installed base to cross-sell. Nano Dimension holds over $520M in cash and investable securities, and is currently conducting a formal strategic alternatives review with Guggenheim Securities and Houlihan Lokey.
