DESCRIPTION

Samsara sells a cloud-based Connected Operations Platform that helps companies managing large vehicle fleets, heavy equipment, and frontline workers digitize their physical operations. Target customers include trucking companies, construction firms, utilities, waste management, and food distribution businesses — industries that have historically relied on paper-based, manual, and disconnected legacy systems. The two anchor products are AI video-based safety (dash cameras using edge AI to detect risky driver behaviors, alert drivers in-cab, and auto-generate coaching sessions) and GPS telematics (fleet tracking, Hours of Service compliance, fuel monitoring, and vehicle diagnostics). Samsara has expanded beyond these into asset tracking, route planning, preventative maintenance, connected forms, and frontline worker training. Samsara sells subscriptions priced on a per-asset, per-application basis, with subscriptions representing roughly 98% of revenue. As customers add assets or applications, ARR scales linearly. Expansions within existing customers account for roughly half of net new ACV in any given period, and Samsara targets net revenue retention of ~115%. Samsara provides IoT hardware (cameras, gateways, asset tags) alongside the software platform. Samsara sells primarily through direct sales, with enterprise accounts receiving dedicated sales teams and smaller customers accessing a self-serve model. The company is moving upmarket, with $100K+ ARR customers representing 61% of total ARR and $1M+ ARR customers growing fastest. Samsara's data flywheel — processing over 25 trillion data points in FY26 — underpins its AI capabilities, as more customer data improves model accuracy and platform value.
