DESCRIPTION

Pyxis Tankers is a small international maritime shipping company that owns and operates six vessels split across two segments: product tankers and dry-bulk carriers. The product tanker segment — the company's original core business — consists of three MR2-class tankers built between 2013 and 2017, each capable of carrying roughly 46,000–52,000 dwt of refined petroleum products, vegetable oils, and organic chemicals. Customers include oil majors, refiners, and commodity traders such as Shell, Trafigura, and Glencore affiliates. The dry-bulk segment, added in 2023, consists of one Ultramax and two Kamsarmax vessels that carry commodities like grain, coal, and bauxite for customers including Bunge, Norden, and ADM; Pyxis owns 60% of two of these vessels through joint ventures. Pyxis earns revenue by charging charterers a daily hire rate, primarily through time charters where the charterer bears voyage costs like fuel and port fees. With only six ships, earnings are highly sensitive to charter rates and fleet utilization. Pyxis outsources vessel management to third-party managers, paying per-vessel daily fees and commissions on charter revenue. Two dry-bulk vessels are scrubber-fitted, allowing them to burn cheaper high-sulfur fuel oil, which management estimates provides a rate premium of up to ~$1,000/day. Pyxis's growth strategy centers on acquiring second-hand eco-vessels, supported by a $45M acquisition loan commitment. The CEO and chairman, Eddie Valentis, controls the company's commercial and dry-bulk managers and owns over 59% of shares outstanding.
