Senseonics makes and sells Eversense, the only long-term implantable continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system on the market. Unlike competing wearable sensors from Dexcom or Abbott that last 7–15 days, Eversense sensors are inserted under the skin of the upper arm by a healthcare provider and measure glucose continuously for up to one year. The sensor communicates wirelessly with an external smart transmitter worn over the insertion site, relaying readings to a mobile app every five minutes. The transmitter can be removed and reattached without disturbing the sensor. Senseonics sells through distributors and directly to healthcare providers, with revenue coming from sensor packs, transmitter packs, and insertion procedures. The consignment/buy-and-bill channel — where sensors are consigned to physician offices and revenue is recognized at the time of procedure — has grown to over half of global revenue and carries roughly 2x the selling price of the distributor channel, driven largely by Medicare Part B reimbursement. Because Eversense is reimbursed as a Part B medical benefit rather than durable medical equipment, it avoids CMS competitive bidding, providing long-term pricing protection. Senseonics operates primarily in the U.S., with select European markets. Growth levers include direct-to-consumer marketing, expanding its Eon Care nurse practitioner inserter network, insulin pump integrations, and the pending European launch of Eversense 365. Next-generation products in development include Gemini, a self-powered transmitter-optional sensor, and Freedom, a fully implantable sensor with built-in Bluetooth.
