DESCRIPTION

Tuniu is a Chinese online travel company focused on leisure travelers. Its core product is packaged tours, sold through its website (tuniu.com), mobile app, live streaming channels, over 400 offline retail stores, and a centralized call center in Nanjing. Packaged tours account for roughly 85% of net revenues. Tuniu offers two main tour types: organized tours with pre-arranged itineraries (transportation, accommodation, meals, and guides), and self-guided tours where customers assemble their own combinations of flights, hotels, and add-ons via Tuniu's dynamic packaging technology. Tuniu also runs a B2B distribution arm, Difeng Cloud, which sells Tuniu's products to other travel distributors. The remaining ~15% of revenue comes from ancillary services including tickets, visa processing, hotel bookings, air ticketing, and insurance. Tuniu earns revenue by collecting the spread between the price customers pay and the cost of sourcing underlying travel components from suppliers. Profitability depends on procurement scale, channel efficiency, and operating cost control. Tuniu operates two differentiated product lines: New Tour, a premium organized tour brand targeting experienced travelers with a no-shopping policy and niche destinations, and New Select, a lower-cost line targeting younger and price-sensitive travelers, which has grown quickly through live streaming. Live streaming contributed over 15% of total transaction volume in FY25 and reached profitability as a channel. Tuniu is investing in AI tools, including a proprietary AI travel assistant, to improve booking conversion and reduce operational costs.
