DESCRIPTION

Jaguar Health is a small specialty pharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing plant-derived prescription drugs for GI conditions. Its core compound is crofelemer, a botanical extract from the Croton lechleri tree harvested in South America, which works by modulating intestinal chloride ion secretion to reduce diarrhea. Jaguar's only currently commercialized human drug is Mytesi (crofelemer 125 mg delayed-release tablets), FDA-approved for noninfectious diarrhea in HIV/AIDS patients on antiretroviral therapy. In early 2026, Jaguar licensed U.S. marketing rights for Mytesi to Future Pak for $16M upfront plus up to $20M in sales milestones, while retaining the manufacturing relationship and continuing to supply crofelemer. Jaguar also sells Gelclair, a licensed oral mucositis product for cancer patients, and Canalevia-CA1, a crofelemer-based tablet for chemotherapy-induced diarrhea in dogs. The company's pipeline centers on a lyophilized crofelemer powder for oral solution targeting two rare intestinal failure conditions: microvillus inclusion disease, an ultra-rare fatal pediatric disorder with no approved therapies, and short bowel syndrome with intestinal failure. Jaguar is also developing crofelemer for cancer therapy-related diarrhea in metastatic breast cancer patients following a Phase 3 trial that missed its primary endpoint but showed results in that subgroup. Jaguar's strategy focuses on orphan drug designations, expedited regulatory pathways, and attracting licensing or partnership deals to generate non-dilutive capital rather than equity financing.
