TransUnion is a credit bureau and data analytics company. It collects financial and identity data on consumers from lenders, public records, and other contributors, then sells that data and analytics back to businesses and consumers. The core product is the credit report and credit score — every time a lender evaluates a borrower, it pulls TransUnion data, making this a high-frequency transactional business. TransUnion also sells trended credit data (30 months of history), alternative data, fraud and identity verification tools, and marketing analytics. TransUnion reports two segments: U.S. Markets (~80% of revenue) and International (~20%). U.S. Markets serves financial services customers (mortgage, auto, card, and consumer lending), emerging verticals (insurance, telecom, tenant screening, and others), and direct-to-consumer credit monitoring and identity protection products. Internationally, TransUnion operates in over 30 countries, with India (~7% of total revenue) as a key market where it runs CIBIL, the dominant local credit bureau. The core credit business is transactional — revenue moves directly with lending volumes, but incremental margins are high given the low marginal cost per additional inquiry. Beyond credit, TransUnion has expanded into fraud mitigation, marketing solutions, and consumer services, which now collectively account for roughly half of U.S. revenue. TransUnion is investing in OneTru, a cloud-based platform that consolidates its product and data infrastructure, enabling faster product development and AI-powered analytics. Key growth priorities include scaling Trusted Call Solutions (branded call authentication), expanding internationally in India and Latin America, and converting its marketing tools onto a single integrated platform.
