Kosmos Energy is an independent deepwater oil and gas E&P company focused on West Africa and the Gulf of Mexico. Kosmos was founded in 2003 and has evolved from a pure exploration company into a multi-basin producer with both oil and LNG assets. Its two core assets are the Jubilee Field offshore Ghana — a large deepwater oil field discovered by Kosmos in 2007, where Kosmos holds a 38.6% interest and which contributes roughly 42% of total production — and the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project on the Mauritania/Senegal maritime border, where Kosmos holds ~27% and which began producing LNG in early 2025. Kosmos also operates a portfolio of deepwater Gulf of Mexico fields (~29% of volumes) and is in the process of selling its Equatorial Guinea assets. Kosmos makes money by lifting and selling its share of oil, gas, and LNG from these fields. Oil revenues track Brent crude prices; GTA LNG is sold to BP Gas Marketing under a long-term contract priced at roughly 9.5% of Brent. Kosmos' growth strategy centers on infill drilling at Jubilee, ramping up and potentially expanding GTA, and advancing deepwater Gulf of Mexico prospects including the Tiberius discovery and a joint exploration alliance with Shell. Kosmos emerged from a heavy capex phase carrying elevated debt, and near-term capital allocation is focused on debt reduction before resuming shareholder returns.
