DESCRIPTION

Avinger is a small commercial-stage medical device company that designs, manufactures, and sells catheter-based systems for treating peripheral artery disease (PAD), the build-up of plaque in arteries supplying blood to the legs and pelvis. Avinger's products are built on its "Lumivascular" platform, which integrates real-time optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging directly into the treatment catheter — a live, radiation-free, cross-sectional view of the artery during a procedure that Avinger argues allows physicians to precisely target plaque while avoiding healthy tissue. Avinger sells two core product families: Pantheris, a single-use atherectomy catheter that removes plaque using a rotary cutting mechanism guided by OCT, and Ocelot/Tigereye, image-guided catheters for crossing completely blocked arteries. Both require Avinger's Lightbox imaging console to operate, creating a recurring demand for disposable catheters — the dominant revenue driver. Avinger sells to hospitals through a direct U.S. sales force targeting interventional cardiologists, vascular surgeons, and interventional radiologists. Avinger has three growth initiatives: expanding its U.S. sales force, a partnership with China-based Zylox-Tonbridge for distribution and eventual manufacturing of Avinger's products in Greater China, and developing a coronary OCT-guided catheter for crossing blocked coronary arteries — Avinger's first product outside the peripheral vasculature.
